Friday July 25, 2003<br><br> <table cellpadding=2 width=600 border=0> <tr> Got up before 8:00am and started breakfast All the kids were already up, and we dind't have to do dishes, so were were off the site by 9:00am. Funny what a little bear island modivation will do. </p>Got there in an hour with a slight head wind. Was wavy, so we decided to unpack the canoes and take everything out of the water. Some of the kids bought stuff at Mel's market. After they had gorged themselves and I had an ice-pop we bought some bread and pop and made PB&J sandwiches. </p>Waited around 'till noon for the ice-cream place to open. Was pretty busy, so it took us a little while to get our food. </p>I got myself a large poutine right before we left at 1:00pm. Wind had picked up quite a bit but it still looked paddleable. Took us a little while to get to cattle island, and we had a mass bathroom run. </p>Wind was getting worse, so we thought we'd island hop home. Did the first major crossing with a bit of difficulty, but thorught we'd be able to continue. The lady at the island we rested at came out and offered us some help, then came back with a bag of cookies. We declined the help because it still looked like we could island hop. </p>The next crossing wasn't so easy and after we all got across safely it was decided that we'd call for help. Most of us didn't want to because we were so close, but we really didn't have a choice. </p>Nobody was home at that island, so Rose and I went back to the previous island to use the lady's phone. </p>Was very difficult to get back and when we got there she was very helpful (and talkative). Called camp on her cell phone and told them were we were... they were already planning on lookinf for us if we didn't come back by 3:30 (was about 3:00 at this point). </p>Rose and I paddled back to the others. Swells were about 5 feet and rolling over the bow easily. Was quite the ride, and took us quite a bit longer than the first time. </p>We unloaded the canoes on the dock and waited quite a while. Eventually we saw 2 barges and Graham, Neil, John and Jim showed up. They were happy to see us safe, and had waited an hour because it was too choppy for them to go out in the boat. </p>We were back at camp just before dinner and quite happy to be back.
