04/10/2008: "Day 14"

Wow, another big day. Kate got a decent sleep last night, and slept again for a couple hours into the afternoon. Once she was awake she was chatty and pretty happy about everything. Her voice is still a whisper, but stronger than yesterday. About mid afternoon a bed opened up at the step-down unit in the trauma ward, so they moved her up there. It was a pretty big deal for us to leave the ICU after spending 2 weeks there.

Now that we're in the step-down ward its apparent that our main challenges are to do with Kate's head injuries, and the recovery process involved there. She is exhibiting some of the classic symptoms, and this is can be difficult to handle. We are seeing aspects of the Kate we know which is very comforting, but there is a lot of confusion and strong emotion. Please pray for her progress, and us as we go through these steps with her.

Here's a note from Kate's mum:

This is a very personal thank you to all of you who have chosen to leave comments on Paul's site. You have been a balm for me during this journey. At the end of each day I look forward to reading your comments and the scriptures that you have chosen to share with us. I am encouraged so much and reminded that Our Lord is able to handle this situation for Our Kate and that foremost she is His Kate.
Thank you for standing and kneeling by us.
Meg Dias [Kate's Mum]

Hi Paul and Mama Dias.

Paul, thank you so much for your updates, I check this your site at least 7 times a day and always appreciate knowing the status of Our Kate.

Mama Dias, Chris, Michelle, Doug, Claire, Joey, and the Graham's, I love you all and I'm praying for you. I'm not always effective at letting people know what or how I feel, but not an hour goes by when I'm not thinking of all of you and of Kate. She's such an important person to me, she's been there for some very difficult times in my life. Her faith and love have always been a comfort to me and my family and I hope that my faith and my love for all of you can somehow be of comfort to you now.

With love,

Neil

Dear Meg, Paul and families,

Since learning of Paul's web site I've been checking on Kate's progress regularly and reporting updates to Andy and Maia. Paul, this site has been such an asset, not only in keeping friends and family members informed but also in enabling us to feel connected to you all, and especially to Katy. Since seeing her at the shower for Josh's bride-to-be a few weeks ago, I've had the picture of her that day in my mind, healthy and beautiful.
Meg, it was so good to read your note this AM. My mother's heart has gone out to you from the moment I first heard of the accident. What a relief to hear of the wonderful progress Kate's made in the last 2 days. Praise God!
"...For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future..." Jer.29:11
With continuing prayers and trust that He is more than able,

Joan

Dear Kate, Paul and Family Memebers,

I rejoice with you over the daily victories taking place and continue to pray for you all. Following are the lyrics to a song that became the theme song at our ladies' retreat last spring....may they be as meaningful to you as they are to me.

WHEN THE VALLEY IS DEEP
WHEN THE MOUNTAIN IS STEEP
WHEN THE BODY IS WEARY
WHEN WE STUMBLE AND FALL
WHEN THE CHOICES ARE HARD
WHEN WE'RE BATTERED AND SCARRED
WHEN WE SPEND OUR RESOURCES
WHEN WE'VE GIVEN OUR ALL
IN JESUS' NAME WE PRESS ON
IN JESUS' NAME WE PRESS ON
DEAR LORD WITH THE PRIZE
HERE BEFORE OUR EYES
WE FIND THE STRENGTH TO PRESS ON

God Bless you all...Julie

Paul and Kate,
I heard a song years ago with this one phrase repeated throughtout ... "roses will bloom again"

Paul, as you mentioned there is a long recovery process ahead but 'your rose will bloom again' and God in His creative way will turn this for good in both of your lives and He is "able to do immeasurably more than all (you) ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within (you and Kate)" Eph. 3.20.

I too prayed for you both today.

Hi Paul, although you dont know me, I go WAY back with the Dias'. I knew Katie when she was probably 9 years old. Although we have lost touch since I moved away from Canada but the world is so small these days with the internet. I heard from Joe regards the incident and have been upholding all of you in our prayers. Please send my wishes to Auntie Margaret, Chris, Doug and Joe. They will probably have a hard time remembering me but I certainly remember them. Just say 'extra innings' at Oakville was always a treat! Katie has always been faithful and so strong, she will be fine. We know God will never put you in a situation you cant handle or are not ready for. Katie will get through this and come out with her HUGE beautiful smile as always. My thoughts are with you all the way from Malaysia & England!

Best wishes,
Alicia & the Loh Family

Dear Meg , just wanted you to know our family is there with you in thought and prayer. I know your Prince of Peace is there with you in the midst of this storm , and I know your Comforter holds you in his nail scarred hands. In Psalms it tells us he collects our tears , I believe he collects them to return them to us later as showers of blessings. I pray his blessings of peace , joy and love fill your heart and fill Kate's hospital room. I know Josh has been trying to reach Chris , but know that our entire family is lifting you up for those times you don't have the strength to lift yourself up. Susan
