I've spent a bunch of my summers working at camps. I spent all my summers in High school at Camp Mini-Yo-We in Muskoka.![]() That's me on the left when I was 15. I was a JOP (Jr. Operations) at camp Mini-Yo-We for two weeks. One week I was mostly cutting grass, the other was washing dishes at Chemawa. ![]() That's my brother and I at MYW when I was 17 (and had long hair, and he had a 'fro). In the summer of 2004 I went back to MYW to help with the LIT canoe trips. LIT is a leadership course for 16 year olds. Part of the 4 week program is a 4 day canoe trip. ![]() MYW was my first introduction to canoeing, and I lead a number of trips during the years I was there. Its a fantastic escape from all the stress of daily life. ![]() Its also a good way to get into shape. ![]() The summers of 2002 and 2003 I was doing trips with Camp Temagami. On those trips one of the goals was to trip in a traditional manner... using reflector ovens, wannigans and cedar canvas canoes. I fell in love with those canoes. I've since bought myself a canoe from the same guy who builds them, Hugh Stewart of Headwaters Canoes. ![]() |
